A nice hilly forest hike in a preserved nature area next to the town Ober-Rosbach. -

Going from the Altweilnau village downhill (381 m above sea level) to the Pferdskopf mountain summit (662 m above sea level), then on top of the look-out tower (34 m more) gives a stunning view of the Taunus heights. -

Good physical hike: big elevation gains from Eppstein to Eppenhain, and at the end of the route, unmaintained paths to go back to the train station (to be avoided in rainy/muddy conditions). -

Starting with a visit to the hill castle – dating from the 12th century and very well preserved – the area is ideal for a good stoll in the fields. -

Hike to the Großer Feldberg (Taunus) mountain, all the way from Frankfurt. A couple of hours of fields, followed by a couple of hours of hills/mountains, to arrive at a great viewpoint on the region. -

Hike from Frankfurt on a loop of towns next to the Taunus: great views on the montains, walking on mostly paved roads in the middle of the the fields. -

Hike from Frankfurt up to the Altkönig mountain in Taunus. The walk through the fields makes for a nice warm-up before the tough (especially if done in a straight line…) ascent. -

Flat and calm semi-urban walk in the Frankfurt neighbourhoods of Rödelheim, Hausen and Praunheim, along the Nidda river and through the Niddapark. -
14 November 2020 – from Hohemark, Oberursel (Taunus) – trace & pictures
From Hohemark to Altkönig, to Kleiner Felder, to Großer Feldberg, and finally back to Hohemark.
Quite a challenge, out of hiking paths through the mountain, steep climbs along the way. -

From Schmitten to Großer Feldberg, the highest point in the Taunus mountain range, at 879.5 m above sea level.
Mountain forest almost all the way, ideal for a long hike. -
1 November 2020 – from Kronberg im Taunus – trace & pictures
Taunus loop, connecting Kronberg, Bad Soden, Königstein, hiking through the woods and hills, as well as crossing rivers.
The hike includes challenging portions outside of the established paths. -
4 October 2020 – from Eppstein to Lorsbach – trace & pictures
Less physical than the hike on the East side (see Lorsbach to Eppstein below).
Great view on Lorsbach from the Turm am Ringwall tower. -

On the S-Bahn line S2, hike between two towns through the forest.
Very steep, good view from the top of both Lorsbach and Eppstein. -
17 June 2020 – from Frankfurt Louisa to Neu-Isenburg – trace & pictures
A pleasant hike easily accessible via S-Bahn (S3, S4), mostly flat.
Highlights include the Jacobiweiher pond and lovely wodden bridges along the way. -
6 May 2020 – from Hohemark, Oberursel (Taunus) – trace & pictures
From Hohemark (U-Bahn U3), a popular starting point for Taunus walks/hikes.
Quite physical / steep hike, first kilometres with forest, continues with beautiful views uphill. -
20 April 2020 – from Dietzenbach – trace & pictures
Long but mostly flat hike. From Dietzenbach station (S-Bahn S2), alternating between urban, forest, meadows, farms and fields.
After going through the urban part (~ 3-4 km from the station to reach the woods), still very much worth it.
